The First International ETICS Conference, dedicated to debate on the insulation quality and its part in the energy saving construction, took place on 8-9 May 2014 in Ożarów Mazowiecki. The initiative is a project of the Association for Insulation Systems (Stowarzyszenie na Rzecz Systemów Ociepleń) and aims to integrate the insulation systems trade circle and experts, as well as exchange of experience. Among the lecturers was Jacek Michalak, the President of the Association Board and Atlas Vice-President for Development.
The event was attended by almost 130 specialist from Poland and some European countries: manufacturers of insulation systems and supplementary materials, manufacturers of thermal insulation products, representatives of chemical industry, suppliers of raw materials. The lecturers given met with vast interest and the research and development institutes, assessment bodies, trade associations and media joined the debate.
Among the lecturers was the President of the Board of the Association for Insulation Systems, Jacek Michalak, who focused on the role of the insulation systems manufacturers in the creation of the Polish construction chemicals market after the 1989 transition. He also touched the topic of costs paid by the insulation systems manufacturers on account of CPR regulation introduction in 2014 and called the audiance attention to the need of inspection of the use of system solutions by the contractors.
– We are happy that we have managed to create multi – dimensional forum uniting around the insulation systems – underlined Jacek Michalak. – Adjoining in order to use the insulation trade potential in the best possible way, we can significantly contribute to the development of Polish construction and economy as well as support the realization of the governmental aims in order to reach the European energy saving standards. The proper building wall insulation may limit its energy demand even by half.
Among the topics were also the quality of insulation works at Polish sites, trends of development of the insulation systems (in comparison with the world and European ETICS markets, i.e. the German, Czech and Slovakian ones), the significance of the insulation systems for the building energy efficiency and environment protection. The results of a cyclical, done every 3 years under the AIS essential patronage, research of the Polish insulation market and the ETICS topic as seen by the insulation system manufacturer, were discussed. The evolution of the mineral wool performance and its part in the insulation system, as well as perspectives of the polystyrene – based thermal insulation in light of higher thermal protection, fire safety and renovation requirements, were shown. The professionals focused on the effects, which are brought to ETICS by the new requirements on the thermal insulation of external partitions and innovative trends in the insulation technology development, underlining the factors deciding about the efficiency and durability of insulations, which are the design, materials, installation and maintenance quality of the insulated façade. There was also information on the European and domestic rules on the construction product to the market introduction, including the newest requirements in that regard and the assessment of thermal insulation systems as well as training of proper ETICS installation.
– We are the second European market, with good perspectives due to growing energy saving requirements and standards, both for newly erected buildings and existing, but requiring thermal refurbishment, ones – summarised the conference Jacek Michalak – In Czech Republic there is 1.36 square meter of insulation for 1 inhabitant, in Slovakia even more – 1.5 square meter. In Poland we have 1.0 square meter approximately, so still we have a great deal to offer in this regard.

Association for Insulation Systems is a trade organisation of the leading Polish ETICS manufacturers. It aims to spread full technological solutions of documented quality, guaranteeing comfort and safety of use. The initiatives undertaken by the AIS support the development of energy saving and sustainable construction. The Association also promotes proper execution of façade works and standards of operation of insulation systems. The organisation has been operating since 2003. It was one of the initiators of setting up the European Association for ETICS (EAE) in 2008, which is a forum of cooperation of national and trade associations.
