ADHESIVE FOR GRES-STONEWARE TILES

ELASTIC, WITH INCREASED ADHESION
SUITABLE FOR STAIRS, TERRACES, BALCONIES, FLOOR HEATING
BED THICKNESS: 2 ÷ 5 mm
FOR INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL USE

USE
High adherence to gres-stoneware tiles. The adhesive is recommended for tiling of wall and floor stoneware tiles. It is also suitable for fixing other ceramic tiles as well as cement, concrete and stone ones ( in fear of discolouring the tiles in contact with grey cement, use ATLAS PROGRES STANDARD WHITE or ATLAS PROGRES MEGA WHITE adhesives).
PROPERTIES
Flexibility. The adhesive is recommended for tiling in places especially exposed to thermal or mechanical deformation, namely: on terraces, balconies, façades, wooden ceilings, partition walls built up of plasterboards and wood-based boards etc. High elasticity enables to use the adhesive in floor heating ( on mats and screeds with electric or water heating system). It is applied for tiling on traditional building substrates: cement, lime-and-cement, gypsum plasters; on rough walls of bricks, blocks, hollow bricksand other similar ceramic or lime-sand and aerated concrete; on cement and anhydrite floors and on traditional concrete substrates. It can be applied as well on hydroinsulated layers made of jointless foil ATLAS WODER E or cementitious mortars of ATLAS WODER S type.
Increased adhesion to difficult substrates. Adhesion of minimum 1 N/mm² is typical for standard substrate and standard conditions. Thus, the adhesive is used on substrates of low adhesion ( surfaces with hard adhered coats of old paint and adhesives, on terrazzo, wood-based boards, e.g. OSB etc.)
Contractor friendly. The product is convenient to prepare and easy to use. Tiling with the use of adhesive is possible from the top of wall which additionally shortens workmanship and improves tiling effect (it is no need to cut the tiles by the ceiling).
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
The substrate should be dry, stable, even and structurally sound i.e. strong enough; it should be free from anything that may weaken mortar adhesion, in particular dust, dirt, lime, oil, grease, wax, remains of emulsion and oil paint. It is recommended that any irregularities of substrate’s surface that prevent application of the appropriate layer thickness (2÷5 mm) should be adjusted with ATLAS LEVELLING MORTAR, ATLAS PLASTERING MIX, ATLAS TEN-10 mortar, ATLAS TERPLAN N or R, ATLAS SAM 55, etc. If necessary, use ATLAS UNI-GRUNT or ATLAS UNI-GRUNT PLUS priming emulsions to reduce substrate’s excessive absorption. In case of applying the adhesive to OSB, wood-based boards or other unstable substrates of bearing capacity that can hardly be determined (e.g. dusty, difficult to clean) apply ATLAS CERPLAST primer; it is recommended to make an adhesion test, i.e. to adhere a tile and check the bonding after 48 hours. If bonding is weak it means that substrate should be improved. Start to tile when the primer is dried (in case of ATLAS UNI-GRUNT primer after ca. 2 hours. The ambient and substrate temperature during work shall be between +5 °C and +25 °C.
ADHESIVE PREPARATION
ATLAS PROGRES ELASTYK is ready-to-use dry mix of top-quality cement binder, aggregates and modifying agents. In order to prepare the adhesive, pour dry adhesive into a container with suitable amount of water (in proportion: 6.50÷6.75 l of water for 25 kg of dry mortar- ca. 0.26 ÷ 0.27 l for 1 kg) and mix until homogenous. It is best to mix it mechanically, using a drill with a mixer. The adhesive is ready to use after 5 minutes and after remixing. It maintains its properties for ca. 4 hours (pot life). Prepare the adhesive in temperature of +5 - +25 °C.
APPLICATION
Apply the adhesive to the prepared, primed substrate with a trowel or a smooth float made of steel and then distribute it evenly and shape it (possibly in one direction) using a notched trowel. Do not lay the adhesive over excessively large surface because it maintains its adhesive properties for 20 minutes (depending on the substrate). In order to check if it is still possible to fix tiles, you should make a test, i.e. press the adhesive with your fingers. If the adhesive has remained on the fingers, you may fix tiles. If the fingers are clean, remove the old layer of the adhesive and apply a new one. After having spread the adhesive place the tile and press it towards the substrate. Apply such an amount of the adhesive that when a tile is pressed down, its contact surface with the adhesive is even and as large as possible (min. 2/3 of tile surface). In case of tile fixing on floors located outdoors, it is recommended to ensure complete adhesion surface. Tile position may be adjusted within 15 minutes afterwards. If grouting is to be carried out, remove excess of the adhesive when tiles are pressed towards the surface. The floor can be accessed or grouted no earlier than 24 hours after the tiles have been fixed; the adhesive achieves its full functional strength after 3 days.
The information comprises basic instructions of product application and does not relieve users of responsibility for work in accordance with good construction practice and health and safety (OHS) regulations.
CONSUMPTION
On average it is used 1.5 kg of adhesive per 1 m² with 1mm bed thickness. The consumption depends on evenness of substrate and the type of tiles used.

Approximate consumption of adhesive for selected types of tiles
Type of tileTrowel’s notch size [mm]Thickness of adhesive layer [mm]Average consumption [kg/m2]
Small tiles (up to 10x10 cm) of smooth or slightly profiled bottom surface 4.0 mmca. 2.0÷3.0 mm 2.1÷4.5
Medium tiles (25x25 cm) of slightly profiled bottom surface 6.0÷8.0 mm ca. 2.5÷4.0 mm 2.65÷6.0
Large tiles (above 30x30 cm) of medium profiled bottom surface 8.0÷10.0 mm ca. 3.5÷5.0 mm 3.7÷7.5
TOOLS
The set of tools: a container for mixing, a drill with a mixer, smooth and notched float made of steel, machine for tile cutting, pencil, measure tape, distance crosses . Wash the tools with clean water directly after use. Clean the remainder of the set mortar, that is difficult to remove, with ATLAS SZOP.
