GENERAL-PURPOSE MORTAR FOR QUICK SUBSTRATE PATCHING/LEVELLING, APPLIED UNDER CERAMIC TILES
FOR INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL USE
| ATLAS LEVELLING MORTAR is designed for quick patching/levelling of typical mineral substrates before fixing ceramic tiles or other construction work such as poring thin-layer subfloors. It can be used for levelling cavities and other local substrate irregularities. If whole wall or floor surface requires levelling, use materials appropriate for this purpose (in case of walls - ATLAS plastering mixes, in case of walls - ATLAS TEN-10 adhesive, ATLAS CEMENT FLOOR or ATLAS self-levelling compounds). ATLAS LEVELLING MORTAR can be used on the following substrates: cement plaster, cement-lime plaster, concrete, aerated concrete, cement jointless floor, and rough surfaces made of bricks, blocks, hollow bricks and other similar ceramic or lime-sand materials. This general-purpose mortar can also be used in bricklaying. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor use with maximum thickness of the layer of 2÷15 mm. |
| ATLAS LEVELLING MORTAR is a ready-to-use dry mix based on cement binder, aggregates and appropriately selected modifying additives. It has very good adhesion to various substrates. Owing to its operating parameters, it is very efficient, convenient and easy to use. It enables to prepare the substrate and economise on an adhesive if used as a levelling layer before fixing tiles. ATLAS LEVELLING MORTAR is frost- and water-resistant. |
| The substrate should be dry, stable and structurally sound i.e. strong enough; it should be free from anything that may weaken mortar adhesion, in particular dust, dirt, lime, oil, grease, wax, remains of emulsion and oil paint. Enlarge cracks and scratches before filling in with the mortar. If necessary, use ATLAS UNI-GRUNT priming emulsion to reduce substrate’s excessive absorption. |
| In order to prepare the mortar, pour dry mortar into a container with suitable amount of water (in proportion: 0.22÷0.25 l of water for 1 kg of dry mortar) and mix until homogenous. It is best to mix it mechanically, using a drill with a mixer. The mortar is ready to use immediately after mixing. It maintains its properties for ca. 4 hours. |
Apply the mortar to the prepared, primed substrate with a trowel or a smooth float made of steel. Layer thickness placed in a single operation should not exceed 15 mm. After about 30 - 90 minutes (depending on the substrate and environment parameters), you can make even the mortar and level it with a foamed polystyrene or felt float. The aforementioned application is not recommended in case of substrate preparation for tiles e.g. ceramic tiles. If the mortar needs to be applied on a larger surface (above 1 m2), provide expansion joint cuts immediately after the levelling layer is prepared e.g. by cutting fresh mortar using a float or a trowel. It is assumed that the time between mortar application and tile fixing is 5 hours for every 1 cm of levelling layer thickness. The mortar achieves its full functional strength after 3 days.
The information comprises basic instructions of product application and does not relieve users of responsibility for work in accordance with good construction practice and OHS regulations. |
| On average 1.6 kg of the mortar is used for 1 m2 for each 1 mm of the applied layer. In practice consumption depends on how smooth the substrate is. |
