CEMENT MASONRY MORTAR CONTAINING TRASS
FOR CLINKER BRICKWORK AND POINTING
FOR INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL USE
| ATLAS MASONRY MORTAR WITH TRASS FOR CLINKER is a specialist cement mortar for traditional masonry with clinker bricks and tiles or similar elements of low absorbability (3÷8%). It is also suitable for pointing walls and facing made of clinker bricks or tiles. It is designed for making curtain walls, wells, railing walls, etc. Thickness of the joint should be from 6 to 40 mm. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. |
| ATLAS MASONRY MORTAR WITH TRASS FOR CLINKER is a ready-to-use dry mix based on top-quality cement binder, quartz fillers and improvers. It contains trass (volcanic tuff) reducing efflorescence on mortar’s surface. The mortar is very easy and convenient to use and is characterised by high plasticity. Its composition reduces the number of contraction scratches on the surface. It is characterised by very good adhesion to elements of low absorptivity. ATLAS MASONRY MORTAR WITH TRASS FOR CLINKER is frost- and water-proof. It is available in 6 corresponding to colours of ATLAS GROUT - “WIDE” (4÷16 mm). |
| In order to prepare the mortar, pour dry mortar into a container with suitable amount of water (in proportion: 3.5÷4.0 l water for 25 kg of dry mixture) and mix until homogenous. Use a concrete mixer or a drill with a mixer. Carefully clean tools and containers used beforehand, removing any mortar and water. The mortar is ready to use immediately after mixing. It maintains its properties for ca. 3 hours. |

The method of application should be in accordance with the masonry work technology using clinker bricks. Take into account weather in which work is conducted and conditions in which the process of mortar setting and drying occurs. All work is to be conducted in temperature from +5°C to +30°C. During work and immediately afterwards (minimum for 7 days), cover masonry elements with foils or mats protecting from precipitation and excessively quick drying caused by wind and sun.
Do not conduct work while it precipitates. It is also recommended not to commence work if weather forecast anticipates rain or temperature drop within the next few days. Moreover, masonry structure and its foundation need to be protected with appropriate insulations from uncontrolled moisture e.g. capillary water from the substrate. Bricks for masonry work should be clean, dry and free from dust. Mason “full joint” as this reduces rainwater permeability inside the partition wall. Joint thickness should be even for the whole layer. To shape joints, prepare an appropriate tool with rounded section made of plastic or wood. Commencement of joint shaping depends on weather, brick absorptivity and the resultant rate of mortar setting. This should be done several minutes after mortar application when, if touched, the fresh mortar does not remain on fingers. The setting degree of the mortar during pointing needs to be the same for the whole surface. The process of making walls of clinker bricks can be divided into two stages. In this method, to obtain even joints and maintain the level of successive layers, use appropriately prepared boards or other limiters (recommended thickness: 10÷12 mm), arranged on the prepared brick layer along it edges. The first stage – bricklaying – consists only of combining bricks using ATLAS MASONRY MORTAR WITH TRASS FOR CLINKER, leaving space for joints (the masonry mortar only fills in the space between boards). Start pointing of such a wall not earlier than 7 days after the first stage, also using ATLAS MASONRY MORTAR WITH TRASS FOR CLINKER. Note: To avoid colour differences, use mortar of the same production batch in one given section and always apply the same amount of make-up. Due to minute differences in colour shades of bricks of different production batches, it is recommended to mix bricks from various pallets. Protect stored clinker bricks from rain and excessive heating. During work, pay special attention to accuracy and cleanliness of laying successive elements. If the mortar contacts a brick front, remove it as soon as possible (using a dry method). Non-observance to manufacturer’s recommendations and requirements included in this Technical Sheet that related to mortar preparation, application and maintenance may result in salt and lime efflorescence. Efflorescence is a natural phenomenon related to cement mortars and is not directly connected with application of ATLAS MASONRY MORTAR WITH TRASS FOR CLINKER. Salt that causes efflorescence may come from other mortars, the substrate or clinker bricks. The information comprises basic instructions of product application and does not relieve users of responsibility for work in accordance with good construction practice and OHS regulations. |

| A 25 kg bag is sufficient for ca. 14 l of the mortar. On average, to prepare 1 m2 of 12 cm thick wall made of bricks of traditional sizes: ca. 34 kg of mortar is sufficient in case of 1 cm thick joint, and ca. 40 kg mortar in case of 1.2 cm thick joint. |
| Concrete mixer or drill with mixer, trowel or float made of steel. Wash the tools with clean water directly after use. Clean the remainder of the set mortar that is difficult to remove with ATLAS SZOP. |
Paper bags: 25 kg
Pallet: 1050 kg in 25 kg bags |
| Store and transport in tightly closed bags, in dry conditions (pallets are particularly recommended). Keep dry. Shelf life in conditions complying with the requirements is 12 months from the date on the packaging. |
| Irritant. Contains cement. Protect skin, eyes and respiratory system. If contact with eyes occurs, immediately rinse them with plenty of water and seek medical attention. If ingestion happens, immediately seek medical attention and show doctor the packaging or label. |
