ELASTIC, POURABLE ADHESIVE

FOR GRES-STONEWARE TILES
RECOMMENDED FOR TERRACES AND UNDER-FLOOR HEATING
BED THICKNESS: 4 ÷ 20 mm
FOR INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL USE

USE
The adhesive is recommended for fixing of glazed and non-glazed (technical) gres-stoneware tiles. It is also suitable for fixing other ceramic tiles of low absorption, e.g. cement, concrete and stone ones ( in fear of discolouring the tiles in contact with grey cement, use ATLAS PROGRES MEGA WHITE adhesive).
PROPERTIES
High adherence to gres-stoneware tiles.
Elasticity. The adhesive is recommended for tiling in places especially exposed to thermal or mechanical deformation, namely: on terraces, balconies, façades, wooden ceilings, partition walls built up of plasterboards and wood-based boards etc. High elasticity enables to use the adhesive in floor heating ( on mats and screeds with electric or water heating system). It is applied for tiling on traditional building substrates: on cement and anhydrite floors and on traditional concrete substrates
Increased range of bed thickness ( 4 ÷ 20 mm). It enables to avoid making additional levelling layer (when a screed is not even enough or when there is a need to elevate the level of the floor). It is a way for reducing labour cost and shortening of work (you do not need make any additional layer and wait for its setting). These features is good enough to recommend the adhesive especially for embedding the heating element in under-floor heating systems.
Pourability. The tixotropic feature is one of the advantage of the adhesive- it means that the adhesive is poured under the tiles (after pressing down the tiles) fulfilling the whole space between tile and substrate. It is specially important when fixing tiles of large size, tiles of a very profiled bottom surface, and while tiling outdoor. This eliminates arising empty spaces between tile and substrate and penetrating by water which when frozen demolishes bonding tile-substrate. Fulfilling the whole space under large size tile (unavailable using the traditional adhesives) eliminates as well the cracking of the ‘empty’ corner under pressure. Pourability has also economical aspect – shortens and makes the job easier – there is no need to apply the adhesive both on the substrate and the bottom side of tile which is inevitable using traditional adhesive.
The possibility of adjusting operating consistency of the adhesive (from liquid to plastic) – it makes easier, preparing liquid consistency, to level tiles and achieve perfect fulfillment with the adhesive in space under the tile and the contact layer in the same time. Plastic consistency with a wide range of adhesive layer thickness enable to prepare them with a small slope in small room (e.g. in shower tray). Note: This advantage you can apply only in small rooms as, concerning the construction rules, the slopes shall be profiled only in substrate layers.
Increased adhesion to difficult substrates. The adhesion to the standard substrate in typical conditions is 1 N/mm². Thus, it can be applied both for traditional cement and anhydrite screeds and for difficult ones: screeds with strong bonded coats of adhesives and paints, terrazzo, wood-based boards etc.

Contractor friendly. The product is convenient to prepare and easy to use. Extended open time, up to 30 min., enables the contractor tiling on larger surface and adjusting or finishing the tiles.
Economical use.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
The substrate should be dry, stable, with slight unevenness but structurally sound i.e. strong enough; it should be free from anything that may weaken mortar adhesion, in particular dust, dirt, lime, oil, grease, wax, remains of emulsion and oil paint. It is recommended that any irregularities of substrate’s surface that prevent application of the appropriate layer thickness (2 ÷ 5 mm) should be adjusted with ATLAS TEN-10 mortar or ATLAS LEVELLING MORTAR. If necessary, use ATLAS UNI-GRUNT or ATLAS UNI-GRUNT PLUS priming emulsions to reduce substrate’s excessive absorption. In case of applying the adhesive to the substrates of low adhesion (covered with hard to remove contamination of paint or set adhesive) apply ATLAS CERPLAST primer; it is recommended to make an adhesion test, i.e.: adhere a tile and check the bonding after 48 hours. If bonding is weak (a tile can be easily removed together with adhesive) it means that substrate should be improved. Start tile fixing when the primer is dried up (in case of ATLAS UNI-GRUNT primer- after ca. 2 hours). The ambient and substrate temperature during work shall be between +5 °C and
+25 °C.
ADHESIVE PREPARATION
ATLAS PROGRES MEGA is ready-to-use dry mix of top-quality cement binder, aggregates and specially selected modifying agents. In order to prepare the adhesive, pour dry adhesive into a container with suitable amount of water (in proportion: 5.25 ÷ 6.0 l of water for 25 kg of dry mortar- ca. 0.21 ÷ 0.24 l for 1 kg) and mix until homogenous. It is best to mix it mechanically, using a drill with a mixer. The adhesive is ready to use after 5 minutes and after remixing. It maintains its properties for 4 hours (pot life). Prepare the adhesive in temperature of +5 - +25 °C.
APPLICATION
Make the contact layer on the substrate, applying thin and even adhesive coat with a smooth float made of steel (this is unnecessary after priming with ATLAS CERPLAST). On the fresh contact layer apply the proper layer with a trowel of rounded notches. Apply such an amount of the adhesive that, when a tile is pressed down, its excess will over flow every edges of the tile.
Depending on the substrate and ambient conditions, the spreading adhesive mortar maintains its adhesive properties for limited time so apply the adhesive on such a surface to fix the tiles not later than after 30 min. (open time). In order to check if it is still possible to fix tiles, you should make a test, i.e. press the adhesive with your fingers. If the adhesive has remained on the fingers, you may fix tiles. If the fingers are clean, remove the old layer of the adhesive and apply a new one. Fix the tiles to the profiled substrate and press them to it. Tile position may be adjusted within 10 minutes afterwards. Remove excess of the adhesive in joints when tiles are pressed towards the surface – it shall make grouting easier. The floor can be accessed or grouted no earlier than 24 hours after the tiles have been fixed; the adhesive achieves its full functional strength after 3 days.
The information comprises basic instructions of product application and does not relieve users of responsibility for work in accordance with good construction practice and health and safety (OHS) regulations.
CONSUMPTION
On average it is used 1.5 kg of adhesive per 1 m² with 1 mm bed thickness. The consumption depends on evenness of substrate and the type of tiles used.

Approximate consumption of adhesive for selected types of tiles
